DataOn Shares How Infrastructure Modernization Supports Scalable Enterprise HR at AWS Summit Jakarta 2026

Jakarta, 6 August 2026 — DataOn shared its experience in strengthening the technology foundation behind SunFish at AWS Summit Jakarta 2026, highlighting how infrastructure modernization can help enterprise technology companies improve reliability, efficiency, and engineering productivity as their platforms continue to scale.

Held on 6 August 2026 at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place, AWS Summit Jakarta brought together business and technology leaders, developers, customers, and industry professionals to explore developments in cloud, AI, application modernization, and digital infrastructure.

During the session “Inovasi Kubernetes di AWS,” Ronald Mustika Putra, Head of DevSecOps at DataOn, joined Abhi Fabhian, Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services (AWS), to share DataOn’s infrastructure modernization journey and the lessons learned from operating a growing enterprise SaaS platform.

Supporting Critical HR Processes at Enterprise Scale

For more than 26 years, DataOn has developed HR technology for organizations across Southeast Asia. Today, the company serves more than 2,000 active clients, with its platforms supporting HR processes and employee data for more than two million employees.

Behind these numbers are business-critical activities that organizations rely on every day—from attendance and payroll to talent management and employee services.

For DataOn, maintaining its technology infrastructure therefore goes beyond keeping systems online.

“When we talk about infrastructure, what we are protecting is not only the server or the cluster. We are also ensuring that our customers’ business processes continue to run properly,” Ronald explained during the session.

This responsibility becomes increasingly important as SunFish continues to expand its capabilities across the employee journey, including recruitment, employee experience, talent development, AI-enabled capabilities, and data-driven decision-making.

DataOn needs to be able to introduce new capabilities while maintaining the stability of services already used by customers. At this scale, reliability, security, and consistent deployment become essential parts of how the platform is designed and operated.

Managing Growing Technology Complexity

The core of DataOn’s SaaS platform uses a microservices architecture, an approach in which an application is built from multiple smaller services that can be developed and deployed more independently.

This gives DataOn greater flexibility to continuously improve different areas of its products. However, as the number of services, workloads, and operating environments grows, managing the infrastructure behind them also becomes more complex.

Previously, DataOn’s technology team managed many aspects of its Kubernetes environment internally.

Kubernetes is a technology commonly used to organize and operate applications running across multiple computing resources. As DataOn’s platform grew, activities such as capacity planning, scaling, maintenance, and recovery required increasing levels of manual intervention from the team.

The company identified three interconnected challenges: operational overhead, reliability, and growing complexity.

The question was no longer simply whether the technology could support DataOn’s growth. Instead, DataOn needed to determine which infrastructure responsibilities genuinely required direct management by its engineers and which could be automated or managed more efficiently.

Reducing Repetitive Work Without Losing Control

As part of this modernization journey, DataOn adopted Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS), a managed cloud service that reduces some of the operational work involved in running Kubernetes.

Rather than transferring all infrastructure responsibility externally, DataOn’s approach is to maintain control over areas that are critical to its applications, security, policies, and customer data while reducing repetitive infrastructure management.

The company has also introduced greater automation in capacity management and standardized how multiple technology environments are managed.

This means computing resources can respond more closely to actual workload requirements, while the technology team has better visibility into utilization, performance, and infrastructure costs when making optimization decisions.

More importantly, reducing repetitive operational work allows engineers to redirect their attention toward areas that contribute more directly to platform improvement—including automation, security, system monitoring, and product development.

Approximately 4× Improvement in Infrastructure Efficiency

According to DataOn’s internal measurements presented during AWS Summit Jakarta 2026, the company has achieved an approximately fourfold improvement in infrastructure efficiency compared with its previous approach.

However, Ronald emphasized that the impact goes beyond infrastructure efficiency.

Engineering time that was previously heavily allocated to capacity planning and infrastructure troubleshooting can now be redirected toward higher-value activities such as automation, security improvements, observability, and delivering new features for customers.

The shift has also influenced the technology team’s way of working—from being more reactive toward infrastructure issues to becoming more standardized, measurable, and proactive.

“Managed Kubernetes is not simply a technology or infrastructure decision. With the right operating model, it can also change the way a team works,” said Ronald Mustika Putra, Head of DevSecOps at DataOn.

Building for the Next Stage of Enterprise HR

For DataOn, infrastructure modernization is not viewed as a one-time technology project.

As customer requirements evolve, workloads grow, and new technologies emerge, DataOn will continue evaluating how its technology foundation can be improved across automation, reliability, security, and efficiency.

The ultimate objective is not simply to operate infrastructure more efficiently, but to give DataOn’s technology teams more capacity to focus on innovation and on continuously improving the HR solutions customers use every day.
