Batam, Indonesia — September, 2026 — DataOn brought together more than 80 HR and business professionals from companies across Batam at DataTalk Batam Edition, held on September 10, 2026, at Aston Batam Hotel & Residence. Under the theme “Building Future-Ready Organizations Through Digital HR Technology,” the event explored how organizations can prepare their workforce for Batam’s next phase of growth by combining stronger workforce capabilities, reliable data, and digital HR technology.
The event opened with remarks from Marci Mark Rogi, Director of Sales at DataOn, who highlighted the changing role of HR as businesses respond to evolving workforce needs, rapid technological development, and growing pressure to make faster and more accurate decisions.
He emphasized that HR transformation should begin with real organizational needs rather than technology alone. As HR moves beyond administrative responsibilities, organizations need systems that can simplify processes, improve data accuracy, and provide better information for both employees and management.
This perspective reflects DataOn’s experience supporting organizations through HR transformation over the past 26 years. Today, SunFish HR is used by more than 2,000 active clients, supporting the management of over one million employees across Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
From Workforce Complexity to Workforce Intelligence
The first presentation was delivered by Erwin Darmawan, Senior Presales at DataOn, who discussed how companies can move from workforce complexity toward workforce intelligence.
As Batam continues to attract investment and expand its industrial activities, workforce management is becoming increasingly complex. Organizations must balance workforce availability, skills, productivity, and labor costs while ensuring that workforce changes are managed responsibly.
Erwin demonstrated how SunFish HR can help organizations move beyond simply recording HR transactions toward using workforce information as decision support. Rather than requiring HR teams to manually interpret every report, AI-supported capabilities can help identify anomalies and unusual changes across areas such as payroll, attendance, and overtime, allowing HR teams to focus their investigation on the information that requires attention.

Preparing Batam’s Workforce for Its Next Growth Era
The conversation then expanded from HR technology to workforce strategy through a keynote session by Dr. Paimin Siahaan, M.Hum., Managing Partner Consultant and former President Director of PT BKS & SMM Malang.
Under the topic “Workforce Readiness in Batam’s Next Growth Era,” Dr. Paimin highlighted a critical shift organizations need to make: moving from workforce availability toward workforce readiness. Instead of focusing only on whether enough people are available to fill positions, companies increasingly need to understand whether their workforce has the relevant skills, adaptability, and capabilities required for future business demands.
His presentation outlined an outlook in which Batam could require more than 100,000 additional skilled and future-ready talents across key sectors between 2026 and 2030. Five areas were highlighted as important to supporting this growth: skilled talent at scale, digital readiness, adaptability and agility, productivity and quality, and stronger collaboration between education and industry.
For organizations, maintaining that readiness also requires a continuous understanding of how workforce capabilities compare with changing business requirements.
“To understand whether workforce skills remain aligned with business needs, organizations need to conduct regular assessments and periodically review their competency matrices as the requirements of each role evolve. HR also needs to be proactive in gathering input from engineering and sales teams to anticipate the workforce capabilities the business will need,” said Dr. Paimin Siahaan.
Turning the Discussion into an Interactive HR Experience
DataTalk Batam was designed not only as a presentation forum but also as an interactive space for HR professionals to exchange perspectives and experience digital HR technology more directly.
Alongside the SunFish HR presentation and Dr. Paimin’s keynote session, participants joined Q&A discussions, an Answer & Win session, networking activities, and a door prize program. Attendees were also invited to explore recent SunFish updates, experience the SunFish mobile application, and share moments from the event through social media as part of the event missions.
The discussions throughout the morning connected two sides of the same challenge: technology can provide greater workforce visibility, but organizational readiness still depends on leadership, skills, processes, and adoption. As highlighted during the DataOn session, technology becomes most valuable when organizations have the capability and governance to turn information into action.
