SunFish Academy conducted an online Payroll Module Refresher Training on 11 March 2026, designed to help HR administrators strengthen their understanding of payroll configuration and payroll processing using the SunFish HR platform.
The training session was delivered by Enrico, Technical QA HCM at DataOn, who guided participants through a direct demonstration using the SunFish Demo Instance. The session focused on refreshing participants’ knowledge of payroll system configuration while helping HR teams better manage payroll data and operational processes within the system.
A total of 26 participants attended the session, representing organizations from various industries including healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, and professional services. Participating organizations included KSO Rumah Duka Carolus, Markaz Group, PT KNITTO TEKSTIL INDONESIA, PT. G-TEKT INDONESIA MANUFACTURING, Alila Solo, Colorobbia Indonesia, PT Medika Loka Manajemen, RS Hermina Ciputat, RS Hermina Arcamanik, RS Hermina Soreang, and RS Hermina Metland Cibitung.
The session aimed to help participants revisit the SunFish HR Payroll Module, covering how to manage payroll master data, configure payroll components, and execute payroll processing workflows within the system.
The objective of the refresher session was to enable HR administrators to:
- Revisit the payroll module features
- Re-learn how to manage payroll component master data and payroll periods
- Understand how to manage employee payroll data
- Execute the payroll process and follow-up actions
- Share operational best practices with other participants
During the training, Enrico demonstrated how organizations can configure various payroll-related elements within the SunFish system. Key topics included setting up loan types, reimbursement configurations, payroll components, and employee loan allocations, which form the foundation of payroll calculations.
Participants also learned how to configure employee payroll data, run the payroll calculation process, and manage payroll outputs such as bank transfers and payslip distribution.
The training further explored operational payroll workflows within SunFish HR, including managing payroll periods, employee salary data, payroll component data, and payroll calculations. Additional demonstrations showed how HR teams can process payroll for multiple employees, manage back pay adjustments, handle severance payments, and generate payslips.
Beyond payroll calculations, the system also supports operational functions such as bank transfer processing, payroll journal configuration, payroll history management, statutory reporting, and payroll analytics reports, allowing organizations to maintain transparent and auditable payroll operations.
By combining system demonstrations with real operational scenarios, the training provided HR teams with practical insights into how payroll processes can be managed more efficiently through an integrated HRIS platform.
Q&A Session Highlights
The session concluded with an interactive discussion where participants shared practical questions related to payroll management scenarios they encounter in their organizations.
One participant raised a case involving an employee transitioning from training status to contract employment. Despite configuring the effective salary date to match the start of the contract period, the payroll calculation still generated a full base salary instead of a prorated amount. During the discussion, the trainer explained that this situation may occur when the payroll formula does not correctly read the effective date configuration. Adjusting the payroll formula settings can help ensure that the system applies prorated salary calculations appropriately.
Participants also asked whether payroll components displayed on employee payslips could be customized. The trainer clarified that this can be configured within the payroll component settings by enabling the “Print on Payslip” option, allowing organizations to control which payroll components appear on the payslip.
Another topic discussed involved cases where employees who had already been terminated still appeared in payroll data during payroll processing. The trainer explained that HR administrators should verify whether the employee’s termination date has passed the payroll payment date, as this timing can affect whether the employee is still included in the payroll dataset.
In addition, participants explored scenarios where companies apply attendance-based payroll policies, such as minimum working hour requirements. The trainer explained that such policies can be implemented through payroll component formula configurations, enabling organizations to align payroll calculations with their attendance policies.
The discussion session provided participants with valuable insights into how payroll configurations within the SunFish HR system can support more accurate and controlled payroll management.
