Shaping Indonesia’s Future with World-Class Tourism Destinations

InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) is a leading tourism development and management company in Indonesia, with over fifty years of experience. ITDC specializes in managing areas across Indonesia that are set to become Special Economic Zones (SEZs).

ITDC’s mission is to transform underdeveloped areas into integrated tourism zones that attract both domestic and international visitors. Their primary focus is on developing infrastructure and essential facilities in these areas, including hotels, resorts, entertainment centers, sports venues, and conference centers.

The company identifies high-potential locations and collaborates with local governments, the private sector, and communities to ensure sustainable growth that aligns with Indonesia's national tourism goals. Each ITDC project aims to boost tourism while creating a positive economic impact for surrounding communities.

Currently, ITDC manages several high-profile projects, including The Nusa Dua in Bali, The Mandalika—a globally recognized destination for sports and entertainment—and the recently launched Golo Mori Convention Center in Labuan Bajo, paving the way for its future as a designated tourism SEZ.

Growth Brings HR Complexity

Managing and developing multiple tourism zones involves a significant amount of work. ITDC’s team must work closely with the government, local communities, residents, and various stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and successful project development outcomes. This level of work requires a diverse range of professionals - specialists in areas from infrastructure development to community engagement - who bring these ambitious projects to life. To achieve this, ITDC relies on a large and dedicated workforce—190 employees and 571 outsourced workers, to be exact.

However, with their rapid expansion, ITDC’s HR department encountered several operational challenges:

  • Manual Processes Many HR tasks - such as payroll, attendance tracking, employee development programs, recruitment, and overall data management - were handled manually, leading to errors, inefficiencies, and delays.
  • Human Errors Frequent errors in data entry and processing created inconsistencies in employee records, payroll discrepancies, and inaccuracies in attendance tracking.
  • Data Security Concerns Handling sensitive employee information manually raised concerns about data security, complicating compliance and making it difficult to protect personal data effectively.
  • Difficulty in Data Analysis Without automation, tracking and analyzing employee data for decision-making was challenging, hindering the ability to identify trends and make timely adjustments.

How SunFish Revolutionized ITDC's HR Operations

In 2018, ITDC turned to DataOn Humanica’s SunFish, looking to implement an HR  solution that could be tailored to meet their unique needs. With its flexibility and customizable features, SunFish emerged as the ideal HRIS.

Since implementing SunFish, ITDC has experienced a range of impactful improvements across their HR operations, from streamlined processes to enhanced data management. Here’s how the solution has reshaped ITDC’s approach to HR:

  • Streamlined HR Processes Since implementing SunFish, ITDC has significantly streamlined its HR processes. Payroll processing time has been reduced from three days to just one, while the automatic integration of updated tax regulations has minimized errors and improved accuracy.
  • Centralized and Integrated Data The system’s centralized, integrated data has created smoother workflows and improved data accessibility, enabling ITDC’s HR team to efficiently manage payroll, attendance, and employee development programs.
  • Innovative “i-Collaborate” Module Through this partnership, ITDC and DataOn Humanica co-developed the innovative "i-Collaborate" module, designed to manage employee-driven ideas. This feature became a standout entry at the 2020 BUMN Millennial Innovation Summit.
  • User-Friendly Interface SunFish’s intuitive interface has been widely embraced across generations within ITDC, simplifying access and use for its diverse workforce.

ITDC’s strategic decision to implement SunFish underscores its commitment to building an efficient, positive future-ready workplace for its employees. By leveraging this advanced HRIS solution, ITDC has transformed its HR processes, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and the employee experience. This shift not only boosts operational effectiveness but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement, empowering employees and supporting their growth.

By prioritizing both cutting-edge technology and employee satisfaction, ITDC is well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of the tourism industry. This approach ensures sustained success at its key destinations like The Nusa Dua, The Mandalika, and Golo Mori, further solidifying ITDC’s leadership in Indonesia’s tourism sector.
